underworldMost people know about Underworld is from the incredible, generation-defining soundtrack for Trainspotting, which was an incredible mix of music that perfectly captured burgeoning electronic music scene coupled with the music and musicians that inspired it.

Underworld’s contribution to that soundtrack, “Born Slippy,” is a great introduction to their style, with a mix of rambling inner monologue coupled with sounds that start soft, yet stunted and build into a heavy, manic marching beat by the end.  With a little digging, you’ll find they excel in both capacities.

Even in their most recent effort, ‘Barking,’ they proved they were still worth listening to, and that album includes some of my favorite Underworld tracks.  “Always Loved a Film” is the standout track, and after roughly a hundred listens, I’m still not remotely sick of it.  Perfect for a Sunday afternoon.  Or night.
